Day 1 (Sun)


Commence your journey when you step aboard The Ghan in Adelaide and travel north to Alice Springs. Venture deep into the heart of Australia and watch as the rolling pastoral lands of South Australia merge into rugged mallee scrub. Enjoy the comfort and solitude of your private cabin, lose yourself in conversation with newfound travelling companions, or simply gaze out of the window taking inspiration from the ever changing landscape. Day 2 (Mon)


Wake up to witness an unforgettable outback sunrise during our short stop at Marla in the remote reaches of South Australia. Once back on board, enjoy a bite to eat from our extensive brunch menu, whether you’re after something light or a big hearty meal, we have something to cater for all. Arrive into Alice Springs in the early afternoon and be transferred to your accommodation, Lasseters Hotel. (B,L)

Day 3 (Tue)


Travel from Alice Springs to Uluru by coach. Take in the rugged desert landscape as you pass through the beautiful MacDonnell Ranges. Stop at a Camel Farm and learn about the impact camels had in opening up Central Australia and have the opportunity to ride a camel (optional cost). View Mt Conner in the distance before arriving at Ayers Rock Resort rested, relaxed and ready to explore the amazing World Heritage-listed Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. This afternoon enjoy a leisurely drive to Kata Tjuta for one of the best sunset experiences in Central Australia. Marvel at the unique flora and admire the view from the central valley between the domes of Kata Tjuta while you take in a magnificent outback sunset with gourmet canapés and Australian wine. (B)

Day 4 (Wed)


After sunset, transfer to the exclusive barbecue site. The site is within the Uluru National Park, adjacent to Uluru – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre set amongst red sand dunes and desert oak trees providing a peaceful desert setting. Enjoy a variety of Australian meats and salads, accompanied by a glass of wine, beer or orange juice. After dinner, tea, coffee and dessert will be served and your guide will conduct a tour of the night sky, describing and pointing out some of the visible constellations. (D)

Day 6 (Fri)


Join a guided climb to the rim of Kings Canyon for marvellous views of Watarrka National Park. Time permitting, you may choose to descend into the green oasis of the ‘Garden of Eden’. Alternatively, you may wish to take an easier, shorter walk to explore the boulder strewn Canyon floor. Stop at Kings Creek Station to purchase lunch and to explore the working cattle station. Travel through beautiful desert landscapes as you continue your journey back to Alice Springs where you will be dropped at Lasseters Hotel, your accommodation for the next three nights.

Day 7 (Sat)


Today is free to explore Alice Springs at your own pace. Visit local landmarks, or take a front row seat at a spectacular bird show at the Desert Park. To fully appreciate this breathtaking part of Australia, you might like to take a balloon ride over the ancient MacDonnell Ranges, or for an alternative experience take a serene camel ride across the incredible ochre land. Day 8 (Sun)


Join your 4WD safari tour through the West MacDonnell Ranges to Hermannsburg, an Aboriginal community and historic precinct which is renowned for its Aboriginal art collection and the works of Albert Namatjira. Travel down the bed of the Finke River, one of oldest water courses in the world, into Palm Valley. See spectacular rock forms, white sands and an oasis of rock pools and palm trees. Visit the spectacular rock formation known as the Ampitheatre and enjoy a picnic lunch. On the return journey, relax and enjoy the changing colours of the magnificent West MacDonnell Ranges in the afternoon light. (B,L)

Day 9 (Mon)


Check out of Lasseters Hotel this morning and enjoy free time before joining The Ghan to travel further north towards Darwin. Back on the train there’s time to talk through the weeks’ discoveries with your fellow travellers in the Outback Explorer Lounge before freshening up for dinner in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant. Day 10 (Tue)


Today you’ll disembark for a morning of cultural delights in Katherine. Enjoy a leisurely cruise on the Katherine River or gain an insight into the culture and ways of the traditional owners of Nitmiluk, taking part in an exclusive cultural experience. Rolling into Darwin late this afternoon you will be transferred to the city centre. Your accommodation is at DoubleTree by Hilton Esplanade. (B,L)

Day 11 (Wed)


Spend today discovering all that Darwin has to offer. Chairs and tables spill out of street-side restaurants and bars, innovative museums celebrate the city’s past and galleries showcase the region’s rich Indigenous art. (B)

Day 12 (Thur)


Step aboard your coach and head towards Kakadu National Park. Join your local guide on a cruise of Yellow Water Billabong. Search for saltwater crocodiles and the colourful range of birdlife for which this region is renowned. After lunch, stop at Nourlangie, where your guide will lead you on a walk to view the rock art galleries. (B,L) For the experience of a lifetime why not book a 50 minute scenic flight over Kakadu and Arnhem Land. (own expense)

Day 13 (Fri)


Spend the morning exploring the World Heritage Area of Ubirr, where you’ll climb up through the ancient Aboriginal rock art galleries, to the lookout for a view over the surrounding wetlands. Join the Guluyambi Cruise on the East Alligator River. An Aboriginal guide will provide an insight into their culture, including information about local mythology, the river’s abundant food chain and bush survival skills. With special permission of the local people, you are able to go ashore to Arnhem Land before boarding the coach for your journey to Darwin. Return to DoubleTree by Hilton Esplanade for your final night’s accommodation. (L)

Day 14 (Sat)


Your adventure through the centre of Australia concludes this morning upon checking out of your hotel. (B)
