Arrive at East Perth Rail Terminal and step aboard the Indian Pacific. The comfort of your cabin awaits, as does your first onboard dining experience in the elegantly-appointed Queen Adelaide Restaurant. Reflect on the menu as you watch the suburbs roll past your window, followed by the gentle rolling hills of the Avon Valley.The afternoon is yours to relax, socialise and get acquainted with the novelty of rail travel. First stop this evening is Kalgoorlie, home to the Super Pit, an open-cut gold mine. (L,D)

Day 2 (Mon)


Upon waking, set your sights on the vast horizon beyond the window - you have arrived on the edges of the sweeping Nullarbor Plain. By the time you have refreshed and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, you’ll be stepping off the train for an Outback Experience in Cook. Once a bustling railway community, now a vacant ghost town, Cook gives new meaning to the expression ‘middle of nowhere’. Get a sense of the Nullarbor’s harsh remoteness as you wander through Cook’s deserted buildings and learn more about the town’s intriguing history. Back onboard, the beverages are cold and the welcoming atmosphere of the Outback Explorer Lounge inspires conversation and laughter. Sit back and relax as the train continues its trek across the barren landscape. (B,L,D)

Day 3 (Tue)


Looking out of your window this morning there’s a noticable change in landscape as the dry vista of the Nullarbor makes way for the luscious green fields and pastoral lands of South Australia. After breakfast you’ll have time to reflect on your journey before the Indian Pacific rolls into Adelaide. Transfer to the Majestic Roof Garden Hotel, your accommodation whilst in Adelaide.

Day 4 (Wed)


Enjoy the picturesque journey through the Adelaide Hills during the drive to the settlement of Strathalbyn. Travel onto Goolwa where you will have a brief tour of the town – including the wharf, barrage and beach. Proceed on to Victor Harbor, wander through the main street, explore Granite Island and devour a three course lunch at Hotel Victor. Next stop is the wine making region of McLaren Vale. Explore the main street, sample the local produce or grab a coffee at one of the many cafés. Enjoy a scenic drive through the southern metropolitan beaches before returning to Adelaide. (B,L)

Day 5 (Thu)


Today you will venture to South Australia’s premium wine region, the Barossa. The first stop is at TeAro Estate for wine tasting. Continue onto Angaston for a delicious two course lunch and wine tasting at Lambert Estate. The final stop for the day at Pindarie, a beautiful location to end your Barossa experience. During the drive back to Adelaide, take in the views of the vineyards and open fields before they merge into the suburbs of Adelaide. (B,L)

Day 6 (Fri)


After a busy few days of sightseeing, take today to relax. Soak up Adelaide’s colonial elegance in the spacious green parklands, bustling Adelaide Central Markets and the museums and libraries of North Terrace. Alternatively, wander through Rundle Mall for a spot of shopping or take a ride on the tram to the popular beachside suburb of Glenelg. (B)

Day 7 (Sat)


Prepare for an early morning pick up from your hotel and enjoy the scenic route to Cape Jervis, taking in the picturesque Fleurieu Peninsula with its vineyards, coastal views and rolling hills. On arrival, board the ferry for the forty five minute crossing to Penneshaw, Kangaroo Island. Upon arrival you will be greeted by your local guide. Travel to Clifford’s Honey Farm, where you will be welcomed by the Farm’s beekeeper and enjoy the opportunity to sample homemade honey ice-cream and honey beauty products. Save your appetite for a delicious two course lunch at Vivonne Bay Bistro. After lunch visit Seal Bay Conservation Park and enjoy a guided beach walk amongst a breeding colony of wild Australian Sea-lions. Your tour will continue to another wildlife attraction, the fascinating In-flight Birds of Prey Display. Enjoy a fascinating interactive experience and meet an array of birds and raptors. From here you travel to Kingscote to watch the pelican feeding and learn about the ancient birds, before being transferred to your overnight accommodation. (B,L)

Day 8 (Sun)


After breakfast, your first stop of the day is at Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park, before continuing onto Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. Devour a scrumptious two course lunch at Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat. This afternoon head to the western most part of the Island, Flinders Chase National Park. Travel through the park and enjoy breathtaking views of its unique coastal scenery. You will be taken to the rugged southern coastline to explore Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch, providing great photographic opportunities and stunning sea views. Return to Penneshaw Ferry Terminal and commence the journey to Adelaide. Check back into the Majestic Roof Garden Hotel upon your return to Adelaide. (B,L)

Day 9 (Mon)


Join your city highlights tour and travel through historic North Adelaide, where you’ll see tree-lined streets, mansions and historic buildings. Stop and visit the iconic St Peters Cathedral and the newly developed Adelaide Oval before continuing to Haigh’s Chocolates for a factory tour and tasting. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Day 10 (Tue)


Boarding the Indian Pacific in Adelaide, take in the striking and ever-changing landscape of South Australia as you head east towards Sydney. Over lunch, watch as pastures dissolve into tough mallee scrub on approach to Broken Hill. The town is home to the world’s largest silver, lead and zinc mine. The enormous mullock heap which forms a backdrop for the town centre, emphasises the unique character of Broken Hill. In 2015 it became the first Australian city to be included on the National Heritage List. As the train pulls out of Broken Hill, make your way back to the Indian Pacific and on to the Queen Adelaide Restaurant to savour your last dinner onboard. (B,L,D)

Day 11 (Wed)


Winding your way through the magnificent Blue Mountains provides ample opportunity to kick back and reflect upon this unforgettable journey, before arriving into Sydney late this morning. (B)
